Ruby McHam

SPARTANBURG - Ruby Mae Brown McHam, 73, of 121 McHam Road, wife of the Rev. Mills McHam, passed away Monday, Aug. 24, at 9:14 a.m. at her residence.

Daughter of the late John Lee Brown and the late Maggie Smith Brown, she was born July 5, 1936, in Cherokee County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Billy Ray McHam; a brother, Bobby Jean Brown; and a greatgranddaughter, Krishona Wofford.

Mrs. McHam was a member of Green Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as chairperson of the fundraising committee and was a member of the Senior Missionary. She was a 1955 graduate of Granard High School and a member of Queen Esther Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star, and Heron of Jericho Tyron Court No. 3, both of Shelby. She was a former employee of Hoechst Fibers of Spartanburg and Southern Eastern of Gaffney. Mrs. McHam was a retired employee of Progress Lighting of Cowpens.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Pearline P. Sims of the home; a son, Phillip Lee McHam of San Bernardino, Calif.; three brothers, John C. Brown, Horace Lee Brown, both of Pacolet, and Herbert Brown of Gaffney; three sisters, Ruth Littlejohn, Mary Middleton, both of Gaffney, and Annjannette Wannamaker of Inman; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; an aunt; an uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-law, and other relatives.

The family is at the residence.
