A healthy dose of Dasher and good defense was the winning formula Friday for Blacksburg in a 29-7 victory over Southside Christian.

Junior running back Lennal Dasher rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns behind a strong performance by the Blacksburg offensive line.

The Blacksburg held Southside Christian to 161 yards in total offense and set up the first touchdown with a fourth down stop at the 21-yard line. Linebacker Brent Bonner had an interception in the end zone late in the fourth quarter to end another scoring threat.

"I'm real pleased. It's nice to see our kids have a little success," Blacksburg coach Mickey Moss said. "We had a lot of players who played both ways tonight. We were pleased with their effort."

Blacksburg High received a boost Thursday afternoon when Dasher and defensive lineman Dylan Lowery had their eligibility reinstated by the South Carolina High School League. Dasher returned to Blacksburg after transferring to a school in Georgia last year.

Dasher carried much of the workload in the running game with tailback and defensive back Chase Hames struggling with cramps in the second half. Lowery saw significant playing time on the defensive line for a Blacksburg team left shorthanded by the flu this week.

Blacksburg started its first scoring drive with great field position, taking over on downs at the 21-yard line following a defensive stop. The Wildcats scored two plays later on a 19-yard touchdown run by Hames.

After the defense forced a punt, the Blacksburg offensive line sealed off Southside Christian defenders to create gaping holes outside for Dasher to run through on a 66-yard scoring drive.

Dasher finished off the long drive with a 6-yard run to open the second quarter. He added a 3-yard touchdown and two-point conversion run to send Blacksburg into halftime with a 21-0 lead. Southside Christian surprised Blacksburg by recovering an onside kick at the 42-yard line to start the seclSee ond half. Jared Lane scored on a 5-yard run several plays later for the Sabres' only touchdown of the night.

Southside Christian attempted another onside kick following the touchdown. The Wildcats recovered and used a punishing ground game to move to the 9-yard line.

The Blacksburg drive ended with a missed field goal by placekicker Marquel Parker.

Blacksburg rushed for 289 yards against Southside Christian.

Ninth grade quarterback Treyvon Parker played the entire game and threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Bonner with 6:50 left in the fourth quarter. Tight end Ryan Greene caught Parker's 2-point conversion pass for the game's final points.
