Stray dogs have a nicer place to call home after a $3,000 generous gift from a couple of local animal lovers.

Last week, the Cherokee County Humane Society announced it bought new stainless steel cages for the local shelter with the donation.

Judy Wyles, president of the local Humane Society, said the animal lovers wanted to remain anonymous.

"Some of the cages at the Cherokee County Consolidated Animal Shelter were donated by the Spartanburg Humane Society and are over 30 years old, rusted and not capable of being properly sanitized, so are not a healthy environment for the animals to stay in while we try to find them homes or placement with rescue groups who will foster until adoption. These new cages replace some that were very old," Wyles said.

Wyles added that the Walmart Foundation had confirmed it would donate $1,000 toward the purchase of additional steel cages for the shelter.

The Humane Society also is seeking funds for the purchase of the steel cages.
