Albert Ray Garner
Albert Ray Garner, 90, of 1504 Gowdeysville Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at his residence.
Born in Cherokee County, he was the husband of Evelyn Lee Garner and son of the late Earl Kendrick Garner and Mildred Foster Garner. He was retired from Cherokee Finishing and was a U. S. Army Air Corp World War II veteran. Mr. Garner was a member of Mesopotamia United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Larry Garner and wife, Nancy, of Jonesville, Mike Garner and Keith Garner, both of Gaffney; a daughter, Karen Gann and husband, Charles, of Surfside Beach; eight grandchildren, Doug Wilson Jr. and wife, Tammy, Steven Garner, Todd Garner and wife, Audra, Chad Garner, Jeff Mitchell, Thomas Mitchell and wife, Jennifer, Bobby Gann and Courtney Garner; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ledley Garner of Rock Hill, Ralph Garner of Gaffney and Harold Garner of Pacolet; six sisters, Ruby Lowry of Gaffney, Thelma Brown of Pacolet, Jet Hughes of Gaffney, Faye Pridmore of Gaffney, June Black of Aiken and Ann Peeler of Gaffney.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Garner was preceded in death by a son, Albert Steven Garner; a daughter, Carol Lynn Wilson; and two brothers, Boyd Garner and Roy Garner.
Mr. Garner's body will be taken to the residence on Friday, Sept. 4, and the family will receive friends at the residence from 5-7 p.m.
Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m. at Mesopotamia United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Fizer, the Rev. Angelia Price and Mr. Johnston Lee officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mesopotamia United Methodist Church, 854 Hickory Grove Road, Gaffney, SC 29340; or Hospice Care of SC, 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, SC 29340.
The family will be at the residence.
