Alma Blanton
Retired from textile industry
Alma Davis Blanton, 88, of 105 Monroe St., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at her residence. Born in Shelby, N.C., she was the widow of Frederick Lee Blanton and daughter of the late Thomas Davis and Ella Wesson Davis. She was retired from the textile industry and was a homemaker and member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, Larry Powell, Gary Powell and Don Powell, all of Shelby; two daughters, Wanda Hamrick and Cathy Stroupe, both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Crissy Blanton, Amy Blanton, Danny Blanton, Chris Curtis and Kim Stroud; and three great-grandchildren, Brandon Black, Linda Burns and Damian Spencer. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Blanton, and a daughter, Jane Curtis. Graveside services were held Sunday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Guyton officiating. The family received friends immediately following the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regional Home Health Services, 120 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, SC 29303.
