Local businesswoman Kayla Robbs is the new director of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.

Robbs was hired by the Chamber board during a special called meeting Friday at 7:30 a.m. She worked in business in Boston and Florida for a number of years before moving to Cherokee County.

Chamber Board of Directors Jack Trnavsky confirmed Robbs' hiring Friday morning based on the recommendation of a search committee.

Robbs replaces Gene Moorhead, who left the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce in May after two years. Moorhead has since formed his own organization called the Upstate Piedmont Chamber of Commerce.

Robbs was on vacation with her family and unavailable for comment.
