Blacksburg assistant coach Drew Chisholm speaks with players in the second half of Friday's 42-20 loss to Indian Land. Blacksburg couldn't overcome a flurry of mistakes in the first half Friday while making a strong comeback in a 42-20 loss to Indian Land.

Indian Land took advantage of several Blackburg turnovers and poor tackling on their way to a 35-0 halftime lead. Indian Land needed a 30-yard touchdown run by Rondreus Truesdale late in the fourth quarter to hold off Blacksburg.

Truesdale scored on a 45-yard touchdown run on the game's first drive.

Indian Land's Tony Gurley returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown, following a botched flea flicker pass on Blacksburg's first offensive series. Quarterback Josh Camerire threw a 19- yard touchdown pass to Truesdale for a 21-0 lead with 1:46 left in the first quarter. The Warriors scored twice in the second quarter on a 3-yard run and Camerire's 20-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Watkins.

Blacksburg football coach Mickey Moss was disappointed with his players effort, particularly in the first half.

"We had five or six turnovers trying to execute a simple offense," Moss said. "We gave the game right to them with 35 points off turnovers. We came out and played like gangbusters in the second half."

Blacksburg scored three straight touchdowns in the second half to pull within 35-20 with 10:19 left.

The Blacksburg defense set up the first score by stuffing Indian Land on a fourth down running play to take over possession at the Warriors' 15-yard line. Quarterback Treyvon Parker threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Chase Hames two plays later.

Blacksburg defensive end Darrell Walton had a 12-yard sack to end Indian Land's next series. Walton transferred back to Blacksburg High from North Carolina this week and had only practiced with the team since Tuesday.

Defensive back Nick Hames and linebacker Kiandre Thompson were among a host of Wildcat defenders credited with hard hits in a strong second half defensive performance.

Running back Lennal Dasher led Blacksburg offensively with 21 carries for 137 yards. He scored on runs of 5 and 17 yards.

Trailing 35-20 in the fourth quarter, Blacksburg had an opportunity to pull even closer.

Blacksburg defensive lineman Derek Kirby intercepted a pass immediately following Dasher's 17-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Indian Land promptly intercepted Parker on the next play.

After an Indian Land punt, Blacksburg fumbled away their second attempt to execute a flea flicker pass. Truesdale scored on a 30-yard touchdown run following the turnover to seal the Indian Land victory.

Moss was left to wonder what could have been if Blacksburg players had played a full game with great effort and intensity.

"We came back to score 20 points in the second half and played well, but we've got to learn to put four quarters together," Moss said.
