Blacksburg coach Mickey Moss didn't need to dissect the game film to determine the reason for his team's loss to Indian Land.

"We just didn't play very well," Moss said. "We made a lot of mistakes."

The mistakes came early as Indian Land took advantage of Wildcat turnovers and poor tackling for a 35-0 halftime lead.

"We came out prepared to play all week," the Blacksburg coach said. "We just gave up too many points in the first half."

The Wildcats showed signs of life in the second half, scoring three straight touchdowns in the second half to pull within 35-20 with 10:19 left.

Blacksburg had an opportunity to pull even closer when defensive lineman Derek Kirby intercepted a pass immediately following Lennal Dasher's 17-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

But Indian Land promptly intercepted quarterback Treyvon Parker on the next play to swing the momentum its way.

Moss said he didn't mince words during his halftime speech.

"At halftime, we pretty much lit a fire under them," he said. "We came out and were a little more focused."

Moss said he hopes his team's second-half performance is a confidence builder.

"That was definitely the bright spot," he said. "We did come out with more intensity and it's something we can build on."

Freshman Parker played all but the first two series against Indian Land at quarterback. Joseph Upchurch, who opened the game at quarterback, was moved to safety because of the team's limited numbers.

Moss said it's uncertain who will be under center when the Wildcats host rival Chesnee on Friday.
