Wants fundraisers to continue
Dear Editor:
Walmart for years has allowed organizations, with prior approval, to conduct fundraisers in front of the store here in Gaffney. Some organizations that come to mind are the Shriners, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army, Kings of Columbus, V.F.W. and church groups, etc.
Some rules had to be followed to not block or hinder customers from entering or leaving the store.
The fundraisers help the organizations to conduct their business and help needy people in the community.
This year as I understand, the district manager has ruled to not allow any fundraisers in front of the stores in his district because a few people had complained that doorways were blocked by some organizations that did not follow the rules.
I think Walmart should reconsider and allow the fundraisers as they help a lot of needy people in the community. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, I want to thank Walmart for previous year's fundraisers and for allowing us to conduct our yearly HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday) campaign, better known for Tootsie Rolls given out.
Thank you,
George Melaragno
Gaffney, S.C.
