Blacksburg running back Lennal Dasher found running lanes scarce in Friday's 49-0 loss to Chesnee. Blacksburg has this week off before a game against Woodruff. Chesnee showed why speed rules in Friday's 49-0 victory over Blacksburg.

An interception by Brent Jones and a pair of 40-yard punt returns from Raheem Hughes helped Chesnee start four of their first five drives in Blacksburg territory. The Eagles offensive and defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage in building a 35-0 halftime lead.

Jones set up the Eagles first score when he intercepted Blacksburg quarterback Joseph Upchurch at the 13- yard line.

Quarterback Walt Miller found Jalen Miller for a 10-yard touchdown pass. After forcing a Blacksburg punt, Hughes weaved through the Wildcats special teams on a 47-yard punt return to the 22-yard line. He scored on a 3- yard line a couple plays later.

Blacksburg had its best scoring opportunity when it advanced to the 28- yard line on its next possession. The Wildcats were aided on drive by a 13- yard third down catch by tight end Ryan Greene and a facemask penalty tacked onto a run by Raymond Ellis.

The drive ended when Blacksburg tight end Darrell Walton fumbled on a trick play.

Chesnee's Wayne Rowland returned the fumble for a 68-yard touchdown and a 21-0 lead with 52 seconds left in the first quarter. Running back Josh Jones scored on a 10-yard run and Martin had a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Chesnee held Blacksburg to 51 yards on the ground and kept steady pressure on quarterbacks Treyvon Parker and Upchurch all evening.

The Eagles added a 35-yard touchdown catch by Hughes and a 22-yard run from Martin for its second half scores.

"Chesnee is a veteran football team with a lot of talent. Raheem Hughes is as good a player as we've seen," Blacksburg football coach Mickey Moss said. "We are young and inexperienced. We have players starting who have never played football before. We are just going to take things back to square one and go back to work."

Blacksburg is off this week before hosting Woodruff in its final non-region game.

"We have a tough road ahead. We have a lot of players who have to play both ways," Moss said. "We are just trying to get better. We're hoping this tough schedule is going to help our kids by the time we get to region play."
