Singing Tree rehearsals begin Sept. 17
      Rehearsals for the 19th Singing Christmas Tree will begin Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at Blacksburg First Baptist Church. This year a new script has been written and several new songs added. Singers throughout the community are invited to participate in this celebration of Jesus' birth.

POW/MIA Recognition Day Sept. 19
      A POW/MIA Recognition Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, at Cherokee Speedway. The event is being sponsored by Lennie Buff, owner of the speedway, and members of VFW Post 3447, women's and men's auxiliaries. The program starts at 7 p.m.

Former FII employees plan reunion
      The annual FII Reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Shelby City Park Gym, 850 W. Sumter St., Shelby. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. in the gym and after a welcome by Gene LeGrand and Carl Spangler, a meal will be served until 4:15 p.m. The gym is reserved for the reunion until 5 p.m.

Health fair at Brookview on Sept. 24
      Brookview HealthCare Center of Gaffney will sponsor a Community Health Fair on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There is no charge for any of the services.

     FUNDRAISER SATURDAY - The Blax Station Band will provide the music for the third annual Luau and Pig Pickin' at Our Place Club in Blacksburg on Saturday, Sept. 19. All proceeds from the event will go to the scholarship fund. Admission is $10 for the dance and food. Public invited. Band members are (front) Gary Lovelace, Jerry "Rabbi" Hollifled and Paul Maney; back, Tom Easler, Tina Easler and Zack Bolton.

      Stacy LeAnn Patterson and Jesup Dale Dillenger will be married Saturday, Oct. 3, at Spiegel Farms in Campobello. Miss Patterson is the daughter of Richard Patterson and Teresa Patterson of Gaffney. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Coggins, Doris Patterson, all of Gaffney, and the late J.D. Patterson.

      Fund raisers A fund raiser for the local Alzheimer's Association will be held Saturday, Step. 19, rain or shine, at 800 N. Logan St. There will be a yard sale and hot dog plate sale with all proceeds going to support the Alzheimer's Association Hot dog plates will be prepared by The Tasteful Palate and include two hot dogs, chips and a cookie for $5.

     SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT - The William E. Foster Jr. Scholarship was awarded to Stephon B. Adams for academic excellence. The $1,500 award was presented by Mary L. Foster, widow of William E. Foster Jr. Adams is a 2009 graduate of Gaffney High School and is attending Gardner Webb University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Adams of Gaffney.
