Fund raisers

A fund raiser for the local Alzheimer's Association will be held Saturday, Step. 19, rain or shine, at 800 N. Logan St. There will be a yard sale and hot dog plate sale with all proceeds going to support the Alzheimer's Association Hot dog plates will be prepared by The Tasteful Palate and include two hot dogs, chips and a cookie for $5. Condiments will be available. Pre-sale tickets are available. Hot dogs will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The event is sponsored by Quality Health Management. Members of the Blacksburg High School Class of 1979 who have not received any notification of events for the 30-year reunion are asked to contact Dorcas Blackwell- Wright at 864-839-1310.

Blood drives

The following public blood drives are planned in Cherokee County during the coming weeks: Brookview Health Care Center, Gaffney, Thursday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Southside Baptist Church, Thursday, Oct. 8, 3-8 p.m.; SCC Cherokee Campus, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Antioch Baptist Church of Gaffney, 300 Serene Drive, will have a Friends and Family Day on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m.

The Shady Grove Baptist Church Praise Singers Ministry will sponsor a Shady Grove "Miss Wee" and "Master Wee" contest for ages 0- 2 and a Shady Grove "Prince and Princess" contest for ages 3-7 on Sunday, Sept. 20, during the 11 a.m. worship service.

Special events

Waterfall Crafters will have its 21st annual craft show and sale in Brevard, N.C., Sept. 18-19 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at St. Timothy Methodist Church, located on the corner of Asheville Highway and Hospital Drive. Lunch, snack and beverages will be available.
