Tizer T. Tate

Tizer Thurman Tate, 79, of 419 Marion Ave., husband of Thelma Jefferies Tate, passed away Sept. 15, 2009, at 2:20 p.m. at his residence.

Son of the late Van Tate and the late Inez Lipscomb Tate, he was born March 18, 1930, in Cherokee County. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and retired in March, 2009, as a security guard at Granard Middle School after 20 years of service.

Also surviving are five sons, Thurman Tate, Sherman Tate, Lerman Tate, all of Gaffney, Herman Tate of Hickory Grove and Furman Tate of Blacksburg; six daughters, Sallie Clarke, Fatina Wood, Mary Littlejohn, all of Spartanburg, Teressa Davidson, Carolyn Dover Tate and Shirley Jenkins of Gaffney; his sister, Betty Dawkins of Gaffney; 32 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny L. Burnside, John E. Wilkins, Danny Tate and Milton Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
