Ellis to speak at Gamecock Club
Former Gamecock great and current broadcaster Todd Ellis will be speaking to the Cherokee County Gamecock Club on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Aegean Restaurant.
Ellis will speak at 7 p.m.
The event will start with a social hour at 6 p.m., and the restaurant will be serving a dutch meal.
There is no charge for the speaker.
NCAA workshop tonight at GHS
Gaffney High School is having a NCAA workshop for all athletes tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. All GHS athletes (all sports) are invited to attend.
Free pizza will be served to athletes and the first 50 parents will receive a free gift bag.
"This NCAA workshop is designed to educate, challenge, inspire and awaken our student athletes in Cherokee County to a fresh, new way of engaging with collegiate sports. Embracing the virtues within each athlete and putting the realities of recruiting into practice immediately," said Gaffney High girls basketball coach Stacey Parris. "We hope this helps parents understand how you relate sports and going to college and it opens doors to growth and new opportunities."
The guest speaker for the event will be USC-Upstate men's basketball coach Eddie Payne.

Lady Saints split weekend double dip
The Lady Saints volleyball squad dropped its Conference Carolinas match against Mount Olive 3-2 Friday night at the Timken Center.
Mount Olive won the first set 25-21, with Limestone taking the next two 25-23 and 25-22.
The visiting Trojans would claim the final two sets and the match, 25-12 and 15-6.
Limestone would fall to .500 overall for the season with the loss, but it wouldn't take long for the team to get back to its winning ways against Barton College the following day.
The Lady Saints swept their Conference Carolinas foe 3-0 Saturday.
Melissa Thomas led Limestone with seven kills, with Chelesea Anthony following her up with six.
Jennifer O'Keefe has two blocks and Danielle Seibert tallied 24 assists.
Limestone travels to Pfeiffer University Sept. 24.
Limestone edged by Lees-McRae in overtime
The Limestone College women's soccer team was edged by Lees-McRae 2-1 in overtime Saturday at Saints Field.
Limestone dropped its seventh consecutive game, and falls to 0- 2 in conference play.
The Lady Saints scored the game's first goal off the foot of Monica Velez nine minutes into play, receiving an assist from teammate Vanessa Jarrett.
Velez's score ended a sixgame scoring drought for Limestone.
Lees-McRae answered late in the first stanza with a goal from Vickie Rich.
Neither team scored in the second period, pushing the contest to overtime.
LMC didn't take long in the extra frame to finish the Lady Saints however, as Shaina Ormsby ended things two minutes into the period.
Limestone goalkeeper Brittany Clark posted 11 saves in the match.
The Lady Saints will travel to Mars Hill College on Wednesday.
