Blood drives
The following public blood drives are planned in Cherokee County during the coming weeks: Brookview HealthCare Center, Thursday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Southside Baptist Church, Thursday, Oct. 8, 3-8 p.m.; SCC Cherokee Campus, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Upstate Carolina Medical Center, Friday, Oct. 30, 1-7 p.m.
Broad River Electric Cooperative will host a blood drive for the Piedmont Blood Center on Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 12-4 p.m. The blood drive will take place in front of the Broad River Electric Auditorium, 811 Hamrick St., across Highway 29 from Nestlé. The public is encouraged to donate.
Community events
The Better Business Bureau Upstate South Carolina will offer complimentary commercial shredding services to individuals and small business owners during a Shred Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Prime Outlets in Gaffney. Individuals are asked to limit boxes to five per person or 10 per vehicle. Businesses are asked to limit boxes to 10 total. Box sizes should be approximately 10x12x15 inches. Family reunion
Descendants of Joseph and Jamima Jones Hammett are invited to attend the Hammett reunion on Sunday, Sept. 17, at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Family Life Center at 1 p.m. Relatives are also invited to attend the 11 a.m. worship service to honor ancestors. Local families include descendants of Adolphus, Josephus and Pinkney Hammett.
Events for seniors
An Exercise Foundation Program will begin classes Oct. 13 for 8 weeks at Brookview Health- Care Center, 510 Thompson St. Classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. Anyone who has any type of arthritis can learn how to keep muscles and/or joints strong and flexible.
