A new company is expected to create 100 jobs in Cherokee County when it starts operations later this year.

County council unanimously approved a fee-in-lieu tax resolution Monday for an economic investment code named "Project Astrology."

Under the tax agreement, the unnamed company will invest $3.45 million over a 5- year period and will pay $549,491 in county fees during the 20-year fee-in-lieu agreement.

Cherokee County Economic Development Board Executive Director Jim Cook declined to comment specifically about the company, citing a confidentiality agreement. Cook indicated a formal announcement from the company is expected by the end of the month.

The company plans to invest $2 million in the first year followed by $1 million the following year, according to the fee-in-lieu agreement.

"This project is on the fast track," Cook said. "The company hopes to be in operation by the end of the year."

An advertisement is presently running in The Gaffney Ledger to recruit workers for a company called Jetline. The advertisement states applications are being accepted for production and warehouse associates capable of working in a fast-paced industrial warehouse production setting.

Jetline recently announced it is closing its Mt. Vernon plant and warehouse in New York to relocate on the East Coast. Founded in 1997, Jetline is a commercial printer and supplier of corporate promotional products.
