Meetings
The Central School Reunion Committee will meet Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum. All former teachers and staff members are invited to attend. The reunion will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and is a fundraiser for the museum.
Benefits
A car wash benefit for 5-year-old Sage Shifty, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, will be held at Bethel Memoral Baptist Church, 1314 Ellis Ferry Road, on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All donations will go directly towards her treatments. For more information, call 704- 300-7281.
Class reunions
Members of the Blacksburg High School Class of 1979 who have not received any notification of upcoming events for the 30-year reunion are asked to contact Dorcas Blackwell Wright at 864-839- 1310.
Special events
The Cherokee County Branch of the NAACP will have a radiothon for memberships and a fish fry on Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 11 a.m. The fish fry will be at the home of Jessie Mae Manning. For more information, call 489-9430 or 489- 8245.
Gospel singing
"In House" will present a concert Sunday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. at Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, 1209 School St., Cherokee Falls. Guests and members who sing gospel music are invited to participate.
The Mystery Men Quartet with Ed Crawford, formerly of the Kingsmen, and Gospel Music Hall of Fame member Steve Warren will be in concert Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Chesnee Gospel Music Center on Green Lake Road. Hot dog and spaghetti plates will be on sale beginning at 5:30 p.m. For more info, call 828-223-1514.
Blood drives
The following public blood drives are planned in Cherokee County during the coming weeks: Brookview HealthCare Center, Thursday, Sept. 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Southside Baptist Church, Thursday, Oct. 8, 3-8 p.m.; SCC Cherokee Campus, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Upstate Carolina Medical Center, Friday, Oct. 30, 1-7 p.m.
Family reunion
Descendants of Joseph and Jamima Jones Hammett are invited to attend the Hammett reunion on Sunday, Sept. 27, at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Family Life Center at 1 p.m. Relatives are also invited to attend the 11 a.m. worship service to honor ancestors. Local families include descendants of Adolphus, Josephus and Pinkney Hammett.
Church news
Mikes Creek Baptist Church will have a church business meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m. This is a very important meeting and all members are requested to attend.
Bethany Baptist Church, 215 Wilkinsville Hwy., will have its 55th annual homecoming service on Sunday, Sept. 27, beginning at 10 a.m. Dr. Robert Dickard, Faye and Lynn will be honored guests. Dr. Dickard served as pastor from 1978-1981. Several former music directors will be present, including Holly Jollay, Patty Ensley and Susan Harris. Lauren Harris Cantrell will sing. Following morning worship, dinner will be served in the fellowship hall. Those attending are asked to bring plenty of their favorite foods.
Judgment House - "At the Crossroad" - will be presented by Hopewell Baptist Church on Sept. 25-27 and Oct. 2-4. Friday hours are 7-9 p.m.; Saturday, 6-9 p.m. and Sunday, 4-8 p.m. The church is located at 511 Old Chester Road, Blacksburg. Call 839- 6643 for reservations. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are recommended.
