Jerry Donald Stacy

April 15, 1933 – Sept. 21, 2009

Mr. Stacy, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2009. He was a beloved father, grandfather and gifted architect.

Jerry was born in Gaffney to Grace and M.C. Stacy. He was class president and captain of the Gaffney High School basketball team which won the S.C. state championship. At Clemson University, he was company commander and received his architecture degree.

Stationed in Kassel, Germany, as an Army Lieutenant, Jerry met his

wife, Jane Rich,

who was an

American teacher there. After falling in love and travelling Europe, Jerry and Jane became engaged. Jerry finished his Masters in Architecture at the University of Illinois before marrying Jane in California in 1958. They were happily married until Jane’s death in 2006, during which Jerry never left her side.

Jerry was a commercial architect for more than 30 years, many with J.N. Pease Associates in Charlotte and the Research Triangle, before founding his own firm, The Roberts/Stacy Group in Cary, N.C. Jerry’s innovative designs can be seen throughout the Carolinas – in Charlotte at CPCC, Wingate University, East Carolina Medical School (including the first MRI building). His largest project was the Environmental Protection Agency campus at the Research Triangle. Jerry received numerous civic and technical awards through a productive career.

An avid golfer, Jerry was a member at Raintree Country Club and cherished his friendships there. He attended Weddington Methodist Church, where he was active in the Kings and Queens. Former president of the Rotary Club of RTP, Jerry was a Paul Harris Fellow.

Jerry Stacy was a gentleman and a scholar, but was a finer family man. Always kind, always generous, always patient, Jerry leaves a profound legacy. An ideal father, father in-law and grandfather, Jerry will be remembered and missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Robyn Stacy- Humphries and her husband, Scott Humphries, and his beloved grandchildren Cathy, John and Michael, all of Charlotte. Jerry is also survived by his sisters: Gloria Doswell and her husband, Marshall Doswell, of Rock Hill and Becky Jefferies of Gaffney.
