Mildred L. Fitzgerald
Mildred Virginia Lokey Fitzgerald, beloved wife, mother and Mimi, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.
Born in Clinton, she was the daughter of the late Al Lokey and Ruby Wren Lokey. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Theron M. Fitzgerald. She is also survived by her four children, Sharon F. Wright and her husband, Tommy, of Gaffney, Susan F. Bruce and her husband, Larry, of Inman, Pat F. Newell and her husband, Brian, of Dover, Del., and John T. Fitzgerald and his wife, June, of Central. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Laura Beth Gallagher of Easley, Major T. Russ Wright of Schenectady, N.Y., Matt Wright of Piedmont, John Wright of Gaffney, Trevor Newell and Arthur Newell of Dover, Del., and Alex Fitzgerald of Central. She is also survived by and blessed with 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Al Lokey Jr., Herman Lokey and Donnie Lokey.
The family would like to graciously acknowledge each of her loving caregivers, Inez Littlejohn, Mary Cromer and Nikki Rahman.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of Limestone Street Methodist Church and for many years taught Sunday School in the children’s department. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years and was a retired registered nurse, having worked at the Cherokee County Memorial Hospital and Brookview Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Greenville General Hospital School of Nursing and served as a past president of the Cherokee County Nurses Association.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 26, at noon at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church following a private memorial service. The family will be at their respective homes.
