Cluff E. Dawkins Jr., 77, of 2-B Berkley Apts., Chandler Drive, husband of Virginia Dawkins, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 11 p.m. at his residence.

Son of the late Cluff Dawkins Sr. and the late Edna Bonner Dawkins, he was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Cherokee County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Dawkins, E.L. Dawkins and Carl Knuckles; and two sisters, Letha McKinley and Lillie Mitchell. He was a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church and retired from the Board of Public Works.

Also surviving are two daughters, Nita McGill and Rebecca Davis, both of Gaffney; six sons, Dennis Dawkins, Elywin Dawkins, Kenneth Dawkins, Terry Dawkins, Willie Shippy, all of Gaffney, and Cluff Dawkins III of Spartanburg; two sisters, Vernell Hogue and Edna Dover, both of Gaffney; a brother, Joe Dawkins Sr. of Gaffney; 19 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 16 great great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Mason, Dr. Michael A. Bridges, Dr. J. W. Sanders Sr. and the Revs. Bobby Hogue, David Vernon, Lee Byars Jr., Lawrence Davidson and Michael Golden officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

The family is at the home of Kenneth and Brenda Dawkins, 112 Carver St.
