Agencies descend on Lowe’s to promote ‘Fire Safety Month’
Police and firefighters had the Lowe’s home improvement center in Gaffney surrounded Saturday, but this was no emergency.
Several local public safety organizations all joined with the home products retailer to help kick off Fire Safety Month and promote overall home safety.
Basic home safety doesn’t have to cost much. Smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers for home use are widely available.
But home safety doesn’t stop there, said Thomas Kuehne, human resources manager for Lowe’s.
“Somebody might have a smoke detector but fail to check the battery,” Kuehne said. “Simple things like that can save your life.”
Assisting Lowe’s on “Safety Saturday,” which was observed at Lowe’s locations nationwide, were members of the Gaffney Fire Department, the Gaffney Police Department, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County Emergency Preparedness and the Cherokee County Veteran Affairs Office.
The police officers and firefighters handed out safety literature on all sorts of topics and numerous police and firefighting vehicles were put on display in the parking lot.
