Student injured during ‘horseplay’
A Gaffney High School student suffered a number of injuries to his face, including a broken nose and a fractured eye socket, during a Sept. 24 incident at the school that is under investigation by the Gaffney Police Department.
A parent of the teen boy claimed in a police report that three subjects assaulted her son on the school grounds and that one subject choked him until he became unconscious. The parent claimed her son was then hit about his head and body and had his head shoved into a locker door.
No charges were reported as of Sept. 29.
Gaffney Police Chief Rick Turner said the incident appeared to be horseplay that went awry. However, due to the extent of the boy's injuries and the difference in size between the parties involved, the matter is being turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice for a review of possible charges in the juvenile court system, he said.
