Retired teacher

Helen Jayson Suttle, 83, of 334 Hampton Blvd., formerly of Trenton Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Plattsburg, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William J. Woods and Blanche Rabideau Woods. She was a retired teacher, teaching in the Spartanburg and Cherokee County schools for more than 28 years. She was a graduate of Limestone College and received her Masters Degree from Winthrop University. Ms. Suttle was the former chairwoman of the Cherokee County Republican Party, served on the board of Limestone College and was a charter member of the Limestone College Fountain Club. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, was a lifetime member of the S.C. Education Association, worked with the Literacy Association of Cherokee County, and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. Ms. Suttle was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Womens Guild. She was a recipient of the Catholic Woman of the Year Award for the Greenville Deanery.

She is survived by a daughter, Dollie S. Blanton and husband, Charles, of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Jayson Blanton and wife, Lindsay, and Ashley Blanton Clary; and three greatgrandchildren, Alex Clary, Trenton Blanton and Trevor Blanton.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Jayson.

Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Limestone College, 1115 College Drive, Gaffney, SC 29340.

The family will be at the home of Dollie and Charles Blanton, 334 Hampton Blvd.
