James William "Dagwood" Dukes Sr., 60, of 695 Manor View Drive, Knoxville, Tenn., husband of Brazil Dukes, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009.

Son of Ruby Buckson Dukes of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., and the late William "Jack" Dukes, he was a native of Cherokee County and was employed by Austin East Magnet High School in Knoxville, Tenn.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, James William Dukes Jr. and Andre Dukes, both of Knoxville; three sisters, Mamie Sharp of Knoxville, Carolyn White of Soddy Daisy and Betty J. Harris of Gaffney; two grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church of Knoxville with the Rev. C.L. Willis officiating. Interment will be on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at the Tennessee State Veteran Cemetery in Knoxville.
