SMYRNA – Luther Hood Mitchell, 84, of 7192 Hwy. 9, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at his residence.

Born in Hickory Grove, Mr. Mitchell was the widower of Reba (Becky) Neely Mitchell and son of the late George Hamilton and Julia Ramsey Mitchell. He worked in textiles and was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by two daughters, Janice M. Bankhead and Teresa M. Hall of Smyrna; two sons Ronald H. and George Edward (Eddie) Mitchell of Smyrna; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucy M. Garner of Rock Hill.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4 p.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery with the Revs. Kyle Sims, Jim Mitchell and Larry Hyder officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Regency Hospice,1924 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
