Michael William Gaines Jr. and Amy Reid Barton Amy Reid Barton of Florence and Michael William Gaines Jr. of Darlington are engaged to be married. The wedding is planned for December 12 at First Assembly of God in Florence.

Miss Barton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David M. Barton of Gaffney and Mr. and Mrs. James S. Trimble III of Effingham. Her grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael D. Barton who lived in Columbia, the late Mr. and Mrs. C. Ray Parrott who lived in Hartsville and the late Robert L. Williams who lived in Charleston. A graduate of St. Johns High School in Darlington, she received a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Francis Marion University and is employed by Jebaily Law Firm, PA., as the office manager.

Mr. Gaines is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Gaines Sr. of Darlington and grandson of Mae Parker of Darlington, Jerry Gaines of Sacramento, Calif., the late Rev. Ferry J. Parker and the late Carolyn Gaines. A graduate of Maranatha Christian School in Florence, he received a Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management Information Systems from Francis Marion University and is employed by The Citadel Military College of South Carolina as their Database Administrator.
