Kirby Memorial Baptist Church begins ‘Celebrate Recovery’ group

2009-10-02 / LifeStyles

Kirby Memorial Baptist Church has set out on a new ministry, “Celebrate Recovery,” according to Steve Brumley, facilitator of the ministry. Celebrate Recovery is designed to help people with their life hurts, habits and hang-ups.

Based on the ministry established at Saddleback Church in California, Celebrate Recovery is now in over 3,000 churches worldwide. The ministry is based on eight principles from the beatitudes (Matthew Chapter 5) and also uses a 12-step approach with a biblical comparison, which addresses anything from alcoholism, overeating, anger, sexual addiction, grief and illness to other habitual trappings.

“We are trying to reach out to the community with this wonderful ministry,” Brumley said,” and touch the lives of folks who are caught in a web of one type of addiction or another that stifles their Christian daily living. Celebrate Recovery is a safe, confidential ministry designed to help you start a new life.”

The group meets each Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the worship center behind the church on Chandler Drive. Pizza and refreshments will be served in the Kirby Café. For more information, call 864-489-4884 or email celebraterecovery@ bellsouth.net.
