Tax notices coming by Oct. 31
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

How appropriate — those scary property tax notices should arrive in time for Halloween this year.

Cherokee County and the City of Gaffney typically mail their tax notices in late September or early October, but the mailing has been delayed this year as county officials set a new millage rate based on the justcompleted countywide property reassessments.

Cherokee County Assistant Administrator Holland Belue said county council will consider third reading of the new millage rate Monday. Once the new millage rate becomes an ordinance, the tax notices will be sent to the printer.

City officials expect to mail their tax notices later this month. Last year, the city mailed approximately 5,700 tax notices. Once they receive their tax notice, city property owners have 30 days to pay their taxes before penalties take effect.
