Cline Gore, a member of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department since 1998 and a full-time firefighter with the City of Gaffney since 2005, was selected as the new chief.

He replaces Clay Greer, who previously announced his intention to step down as chief. Greer remains a member of the volunteer fire department.

“I never thought I would be given this awesome chance to lead a department with the tradition and history of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department,” Gore said. “Yes, this is a huge responsibility, but it will be met with excitement and enthusiasm.”

Gore was unable to attend the meeting because he was summoned for disaster relief efforts in American Samoa.

As a member of the Gaffney Fire Department, Gore serves as a driver/engineer and also holds numerous certifications. He recently obtained his resident state fire marshal certification and also is certified in hazardous materials.

Gore also serves on a Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster response team.
