June Parks
June L. Parks, 87, of Gaffney, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009.
Born Feb. 13, 1922, in Hickory, N.C., he was the son of June L. and Leta Burroughs Parks and husband of Myra McMillan Parks. He graduated from high school in Weaverville, N.C., in 1938.
Captain Parks received an Army Air Corps military commendation for most hours flown in a
military occupational
specialty
in 1942. He was an instrument instructor at Waco and Hondo Army Air Fields and was a B-17 pilot in World War II. He retired from Grace Fuel in Asheville and Minette Mills in Grover, N.C., as president after 35 years of service.
He graduated from Limestone College with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1982 and a Masters of Business Administration from The University of South Carolina. He was president of the Lions Club. Mr. Parks was elder at Limestone Presbyterian Church and an elder and charter member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church. He was the president of Gideon International and a commercial instrument pilot. He loved flying. He is now flying with the Lord in 99 Tango.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years; a brother, David Parks, and a sister, Patty Michael, of Asheville, N.C.; three children, Bill Parks of Newport News, Va., Lynn Evatt and Debbie Nowlin of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. at Overbrook Presbyterian Church, conducted by Pastor David Weber. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
