Meetings
Tuesday Woman’s Club will meet Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum. Hostesses are Mrs. Chuck Lowry, Mrs. Wayne Whiteside and Mrs. Johnny Gaffney.
Cherokee County Republican Woman’s Club will meet Monday, Oct. 12, at Aegean Pizza at 11:45 a.m. Guest speakers will be four Republican candidate for the District 7 County Council seat.
The Cherokee County Branch of the NAACP will meet Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at Westside Full Gospel Church.
Church news
Broad River Baptist Church, 2315 Legion Rd, Smyrna, will have a second Saturday night singing Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. Featured will be shape note music.
Pacolet Road Baptist Church will have Pastor Appreciation Day on Sunday, Oct. 11. A special service will honor Pastor Jimmy Powell and his wife, Judy. Following the morning service, lunch will be served. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a well-filled basket. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m. followed by morning worship at 11.
An special service celebrating the 115th anniversary of Bethel Baptist Church will be held Sunday, Oct. 11, at 10:30 a.m. An ordination of deacons service will also be held. Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. will deliver the message with special music by the church choir. At 4 p.m., there will be a “Tailgating for Jesus” service in the church parking lot. The church’s praise teams and praise dancers will perform and there will be plenty of food, fun and fellowship.
A church-wide yard sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at 7 a.m. at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church Family Life Center. A large variety of items will be for sale. Hot dogs will be sold from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Youth Department of Antioch Baptist Church, 300 Serene Drive, will host a one-day youth explosion Sunday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. Speaker will be Minister Damien McDay of Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church, Asheville, N.C. Pacolet Road Baptist Church will have revival services Sunday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Mickey Mullinax as guest speaker. On Oct. 13- 14, the revival will continue at Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Powell preaching at 7 p.m.
The White Plains Baptist Church Sunbeam/ Junior will celebrate its 34th anniversary Sunday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m.
Park Hill Baptist Church will have revival services Oct. 11-14. Speaker will be the Rev. Michael G. Frazier, pastor of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church. Special music Sunday at 11 a.m. will be presented by the Park Hill Choir and Sunday at 6 p.m. special music will be presented by Ashby Blakely. Monday at 7 p.m. special musical guest will be Stacy Sprouse; Tuesday at 7 p.m. special music will be presented by the Cherokee Creek Church Choir directed by Imogene Bolf; and Wednesday at 7 p.m. special music will be presented by Robin Owenby Dixon.
Fun day
Goucher Baptist Church, 415 Goucher Creek Road, will have a Community-Wide Fun Day on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Activities include singing, games, hay rides, moonwalk-type inflatables and slide. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Other events are a country store, silent auction, and an apple dessert bake-off contest from 3-5 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Items for the country store and silent auction have been donated from the estate of Minnie B. Cook. Bring a lawn chair.
Computer
repair clinic
Spartanburg Community College will host a free computer repair clinic at the SCC Cherokee County Campus on Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Cherokee Business Training Center, room 209. The repair clinic will serve the first 30 clients that arrive between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m
Fund raisers
Broad River Leatherneck Detachment of the Marine Corps League will have a yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. at the old Cherokee Outfitters parking lot, 2326 Union Hwy. Proceeds will be used to support ongoing charities, such as the Wounded Warrior Program, Toys for Tots, scholarships and other programs. Everyone in Cherokee County and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend and help support these worthy causes.
First Baptist Church of Blacksburg will have a barbecue sale on Friday, Oct. 16, during lunch, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and supper, 4- 7:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Dine in or carry out. Plates are $8 and include barbecue, bun, sauce, slaw, beans and chips. All proceeds will help youth attend summer camp.
Open house
Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department will hold an open house on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be activities for children and fire extinguisher training. The Cherokee County Fire Chief’s Association Safety Trailer also will be present for education programs. Refreshments will be available.
