WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE ISN'T FIRE

A bad belt on a rooftop air handler filled a Cherokee Avenue restaurant with smoke and a burning smell on Monday but caused no damage.

The Gaffney Fire Department responded in full force to a reported structure fire at the Hardee's on Cherokee Avenue but quickly traced the smoke and smell to the rooftop equipment. The restaurant was briefly evacuated but was back in business a short time later. In the photo, Firefighter Michael Scruggs (on ground) gets a technical update from Firefighter John Splawn, who climbed up on the roof to get a better look.
