Sorority holds October meeting at Magnolias
XI Alpha Delta met Monday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Magnolias of Gaffney. Ann Fuller was the hostess.
The president, Patty Andrews, called the meeting to order. Shirley Turner led the opening ritual and Ruth Ann Ohlsen, secretary, gave the roll call with 13 members present. Ohlsen also read the minutes of last month's meeting and all was approved. The treasurer, Shirley Addis, gave the financial report and standing committee chairmen also gave their reports.
The service project for the month was a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
A legacy ritual was held for Kennedy Reed, granddaughter of sorority member Libby Reed, and Anna McBee, granddaughter of member Rebecca Robbs.
The program was presented by Cherokee County Auditor Marvin “Merv” Bishop Jr. Bishop and his wife, Tracy, have a four-year-old son, a 19-month old son and a four-week-old daughter.
In his program, Bishop told how he and his staff begin preparing their work about two to three months ahead of time. They mail out all tax notices, and since this is year of reassessment, the notices will be about 30 days late. They deal with refunds and people on disability that are tax exempt. He also deals with utility companies as well as manufacturing property. Homeowners that are 65 years of age or older may receive the Homestead Exemption. He works with taxes on boats and motors, airplanes and helicopters, and stated that his office also handles tax revenue received from the railroad.
The social for the month will be at the TLC at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6:3 p.m.
The November meeting of the group will be at the home of Libby Reed with Carolyn Jones, Louise Spencer and Reed serving as co-hostesses.
