Dabo plans no changes

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney shot down rumors of dissension on the coaching staff and discord in the locker room, insisting that all his Tigers need are just a few tweaks to get back on track.

Swinney plans no wholesale changes in his Tigers (2-3, 1-2) — just an emphasis on running plays better and doing the little things right, beginning with Saturday’s game against Wake Forest (4-2, 1-1).

“Nobody wants to hear it, but two or three plays, and we’re sitting here and it’s a different circumstance,” Swinney said, suggesting he team could easily be 4-1.

Clemson was off last week, but the message boards still buzzed after a surprising loss to Maryland. Swinney invited the band to last Wednesday’s practice and before the night was over, it spread across the Web that Swinney was fighting with his staff, especially Swinney’s hand-picked 30- year-old offensive coordinator Billy Napier, and angry at his players.

Swinney said he decided all his coaches and players needed to be “motivated and encouraged” and understand the sense of urgency he wants his teams to have.
