Truck strikes tree in interstate median
Both people in the vehicle were able to walk away from the accident.
A man and woman involved in a Thursday afternoon accident on Interstate 85 appeared to escape serious injury.
The pickup truck they were riding in struck a tree in the median between the northbound and southbound lanes of the Interstate at about the 95.5 mile marker.
A report from the South Carolina Highway Patrol was not immediately available Thursday and the occupants’ names were not known. Their truck had a North Carolina license plate.
City of Gaffney firefighters from Station 10 and Station 15, the Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department and Upstate Carolina Medical Center paramedics all responded. Due to the location of the wreck, traffic on the Interstate was relatively unimpeded.
Firefighters said both the man and woman in the truck were able to walk to the ambulance and both were taken to Upstate Carolina Medical Center to be checked out. Both occupants were wearing seat belts and the air bags in the truck did deploy.
