Owned and operated a variety store for many years

BLACKSBURG – Clarence Everette Miller, 66, of 1231 W. Cherokee St., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at home.

He was the husband of Jetanna Huskey Miller and son of the late Rev. Coy R. and Pauline M. Miller. A native of Salisbury, N.C., he was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and attended Furman University. He served in the South Carolina National Guard for six years.

Mr. Miller was a member of Broad River Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a teacher of the John Hawkins Sunday School Class and a member of the choir. A Mason, he was a member of Buffalo Lodge No. 202 and owned and operated a local variety store for many years. He was a faithful supporter of Blacksburg High School athletics.

In addition to Jetanna, his wife of 42 years, Clarence is survived by a son, Travis Craig Miller and wife, Crystal, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Taryn Miller Coughlin and husband, Jason, of Franklin, Tenn.; a grandson, Jacob Coughlin of Franklin, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Alexis Miller and Ava Miller, both of Blacksburg, and Delaney Coughlin of Franklin, Tenn.; two brothers, Ted M. Miller and wife, Carolyn, of Salisbury, N.C., and Joel C. Miller and wife, June, of Union; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, C.R. Miller.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church with the Revs. Howard Allen and Eric Nixon officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Keith Porter, David Benton, Gerald Hardin, Jimmy Parker, Vincent Tharpe and Robbie Northey.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John Hawkins Sunday School Class, members of the Men’s Bible Class and Chucky Greer.
