LETTER

2009-10-16 / Letters

Thanks to neighbors, 9-1-1 operators and the Gaffney Fire Department

Dear Editor:

This past weekend our family was out of town. While gone, we received an urgent phone call in the middle of the night from our neighbor saying that our front beds and shrubbery were on fire in our front yard and that she had called 9-1-1 and the fire department was already on the scene.

The fire was quickly extinguished before an structural damage occurred and the only thing lost were shrubs and plantings.

To say the least, we were very concerned and felt helpless being so far from home. However, within minutes we were talking with Lt. Borders of the Gaffney Fire Department and he assured us everything had been taken care of and that he personally checked around the entire house. He suspected the cause was from some outdoor lighting and had disconnected that system.

Our family would like to take this opportunity to personally thank our neighbors Sally and Meredith Wood, 9-1-1 operators and the Gaffney Fire Department for reacting so efficiently. The outcome could have been much worse. We feel blessed and are so grateful.

We all too often take for granted the “silent protection” provided to us by our local police and fire personnel, so we wanted to say it loud and clear that we appreciate you ALL!
Respectfully,
Craig & Kristi Karriker and Family
Gaffney, S.C.
