Blacksburg wide receiver Chase Hames attempts to reach over a Whitmire defender to reel in a pass from quarterback Treyvon Parker in the second quarter. While the pass fell incomplete, Blacksburg won the game 27-6. Blacksburg blocked two punts and made four interceptions in a 27-6 victory over Whitmire on senior night Friday.

Blacksburg senior defensive end Colton Greene recovered a blocked punt by Ryan Greene in the end zone for the Wildcats first touchdown. After a 7- yard scoring run by Lennal Dasher, Blacksburg blocked another punt on its way to a 21-0 lead.

The blocked punt recovery by Nick Hames set up a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Treyvon Parker to tight end Ryan Greene with four seconds before halftime.

Blacksburg was dominant in every area in the final home game for its 10 seniors.

Blacksburg was led offensively by Chase Hames and Parker. Hames rushed for 145 yards while Parker was an efficient 6 of 11 for 86 yards passing.

Defensively, Chase Hames had two interceptions. Nick Hames and Brent Bonner had interceptions as Blacksburg held Whitmire to 151 yards in total offense.

“I’m very proud of the kids. They have been through a lot this year,” Blacksburg coach Mickey Moss said. “This was the first time we have been totally healthy this season. I’m glad we were able to send our seniors out with a win in their last home game. We have a special group of seniors. The coaches have a lot of fun working with all the kids on this team.”

Blacksburg handled adversity well throughout the football game.

Chase Hames appeared on his way to a touchdown late in the second quarter when he fumbled on a Whitmire defender’s tackle at the end of a 55-yard run.

Blacksburg defensive tackle Brett Lanier recorded a sack and a tackle for loss on consecutive plays to help the defense hold Whitmire without a first down following the fumble. Ryan Greene blocked the punt at the 40-yard line and then caught a touchdown pass on the next offensive series.

Chase Hames scored on a 2-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter for Blacksburg’s final score. Blacksburg (2-6 overall, 1-1 region) will travel to Landrum Friday.
