Fund raisers
Parson’s Pantry Harvest Celebration Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at East Gaffney Baptist Church. A singing will feature Assurance, Because of Grace, Kim Fowler, Leighlan Fowler and Alayna Downey, Doug and Linda Wilson, Janice Barnhill and Karen Jackson. A love offering will be received for the ministry of Parson’s Pantry to assist needy pastors, retired pastors, widows of pastors and married ministerial students. An indoor yard sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, at Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, 1314 Ellis Ferry Road. The sale starts at 7 a.m. in the fellowship building. All proceeds will be given to 6-year-old Sage Shifty for treatment expenses of her brain tumor. Some items for sale include children and adult clothing, toys, a small drum set, exercise machine, shoes and much more.
For the past three years, Upstate Carolina Medical Center has had a basket auction to benefit a local charity. The different departments at the hospital are assigned a theme for their basket. The auction will be Nov. 12 from 2-4 p.m. in the cafeteria and the public is invited. Some of basket themes are Hannah Montana, Clemson, Carolina, The Gaffney Indians, Pampered Woman, Little Girl’s Spa, Baby’s First Christmas and Hello Kitty. This is a silent auction and you do not have to be present to win, but baskets must be picked up that day or on Saturday, Nov. 14, in ICU. Payment is by cash or check made payable to the charity selected.
Benefits
A benefit for Charlie Chan will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at noon at the Jack Reynolds Arena on Goucher School Road. There will be fun for the entire family, including live entertainment, hay rides and horse rides. Bring a chair. Food will be sold, including pork plates, hot dog plates and hamburger plates with baked beans and grilled cabbage. Plates are $5 each. The Shady Grove Deaconess and Trustee Wives will observe their annual “Breast Cancer and all Cancer Survival Service” during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, Oct. 25. All cancer survivors will be recognized. Everyone is asked to wear pink and black if possible. The public is invited to attend. Deaconess Sarah Graham is program coordinator and the Rev. Lee Byers Jr. is pastor.
White Plains Baptist Church will have a 142nd anniversary celebration Sunday, Oct. 25, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Raymond Wilkins of Hopewell Baptist Church, Newberry, will be the special guest. The Rev. James Patton Jr. is pastor.

Senior Center news
The Senior Centers of Cherokee County’s “Ride for the Seniors” has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the first bike will leave at 10 a.m. The center is located at 499 W. Rutledge Ave. For more information, call Debbie Davenport, 864-489-3868.
The Senior Centers of Cherokee County, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., will have a Christmas show on Friday, Nov. 6, from 5:30-9 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Vendors are wanted. Cost of a booth is $50 plus 10 percent donation of each day’s sales to the Senior Center. Admission to the show is free.
