David Stephens Jr.

Former employee of Cherokee Finishing

David (D.L.) Stephens Jr., 75, of 122 Crestview Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.

Born in Blacksburg on April 10, 1934, he was the husband of JoAnn Ross Stephens for 50 years and the son of the late David L. Stephens Sr. and Marie

Neely Stephens.

He was a United

States Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a former employee of Cherokee Finishing Company.

Mr. Stephens graduated from Limestone College and received his Masters Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. He retired after 27 years of service from Spartanburg School District Three, where he was a bus driver, a teacher, an assistant principal and principal. He enjoyed fishing, reading and spending time with his family. Mr. Stephens was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday School teacher.

In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Christopher B. Stephens and wife, Josefina, of Blacksburg and Eric B. Stephens of Spartanburg; a brother, Jack Stephens and wife, Cherrie, of Blacksburg; two loving granddaughters, Hannah Stephens and Ashton Stephens, both of Spartanburg; a niece, Frances Marie Stephens of Blacksburg; and a nephew, Hayden Stephens of Blacksburg.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Price officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the church.
