Greatest grandparent
AUTUMN FULLER
Second grader Autumn Fuller knows exactly what it takes to make the great grandparent list.
Citing her grandmother’s love of, and skills for, making crafts, the 7-year-old Blacksburg Primary student chose to honor grandmother June Keith in an essay for the “Greatest Grandparent Essay Contest.” Fuller’s essay was a runner-up in the essay contest held for the first time by the Piedmont Interstate Fair in Spartanburg.
“...She keeps me when my dad and my aunt Mendy are working. When I stay there, she makes me lunch,” Fuller wrote in her essay. “My grandmother knows how to make lots of things. We make lots of fine jewelry. We even make our own dresses.”
Fuller, 7, was among six students selected winners out of 1,200 essays entered in the fair contest. She received a gift certificate and prize bag from Walgreens Drug Store after competing in Division A for ages 7- 10.
Fuller’s was one of several student essays submitted in the essay contest by Blacksburg Primary Media Center Specialist Paula Parker.
Grandparents were recognized last Tuesday at the Piedmont Interstate Fair.
For her part, Fuller simply enjoys spending time with her grandmother when she is out of school.
“Grandma plays all my favorite games,” Fuller wrote. “But the coolest thing about my grandma is instead of walking on her legs she has a chair with wheels.”
