Operation center might get new home
There soon might be a new home for the county’s 9-1-1 and Emergency Operation Center.
The county’s Human Services Committee is considering the feasibility of consolidating both departments into a new building near the Cherokee County Law Enforcement Center.
Both departments are in separate locations at the Peachtree Centre.
Cherokee County Assistant Administrator Holland Belue said the combined center would require a 2-story building, with 6,000 square feet per floor. The facility, which would come with a $3 million price tag, could be financed with the surcharge tariff collected on telephone bills, Belue said. There’s nearly $1 million in the surcharge tariff account, which generates about $400,000 a year.
Some county officials believe that with construction prices depressed, it’s the optimum time to build.
9-1-1 Director Delissa Coggins is all in favor of the idea.
“We appreciate council’s concern,” she said. “We’ve outgrown our present facility.”
