Pancake supper moved to basketball season
Citing stadium parking issues, the Kiwanis Club will wait until winter to hold its traditional pancake supper.
The Kiwanis Club plans to schedule its 47th annual pancake supper before a home Gaffney High basketball game this season. The club directs profits from the fundraiser towards local charities such as the Cherokee Children’s Home, Peachtree Centre, Meals on Wheels and books for the county library.
A new stadium opened at Gaffney High School last year and caused difficulties in being able to get people through the pancake supper lines in a timely manner, Kiwanis Club member Scott Berry said.
“The pancake supper is our club’s only fundraiser. We like to hold it in connection with a Gaffney High sporting event because there is a natural constituency which follows sports,” Berry said. “We normally try to do it before the last football game. We had a lot of parking problems last year with the number of fans at the stadium. We decided it would be more appropriate to move it to the basketball season.”
The Kiwanis Club is tentatively looking at holding the pancake supper in late January or early February. Berry said the club will set the date for the event in the coming weeks.
“With the change to colder weather, we believe people will be more in the mood for pancakes,” Berry said.
