Burris runs for pair; throws for three TDs
Gaffney's DeEdward Burris accounted for 5 TDs.
DeEdward Burris said his offensive linemen came up with a name to describe the moves he used to elude a couple of Fort Mill defenders on his two touchdown runs.
“They call it the ‘This-n-that’, cause I give them a little bit of this and a little bit of that,” Burris said.
Whatever you want to call the moves, they resulted in touchdowns and another big game for the talented junior quarterback, who rushed for 44 yards and completed nine of his 11 throws for 164 yards and three touchdowns.
The Yellow Jacket defense kept Burris fairly well in check on the ground by stopping him from getting outside.
“They just tried to contain me by not letting me get outside,” he said.
So, Burris, who had just five rushing attempts, was content handing the ball off to Rodney Rogers and Kenard Lipscomb, who had one of his best games of the season with 66 yards, including a 50- yard sprint to the end zone.
Although he completed nearly all of his throws, Burris said the passing game could have been sharper.
“I wasn’t really satisfied with the passing game. I felt we could have done better.”
Burris said the passing game must show improvement the next couple weeks when the caliber of competition is ratcheted up against Clover and Northwestern.
“I like those kind of games,” he said.
