Fall festivals
Macedonia Baptist Church will have a fall festival Saturday, Oct. 31, beginning at 4 p.m. in the church gym. There will be inflatables, a rock wall, games, hayride, maze, bingo, costume parade, hot dog supper, baked goods, cake walks, entertainment and a country store. A womanless beauty pageant will begin at 6 p.m., with a "trunk or treat" to follow. Proceeds will go towards helping families at Christmas.
White Plains Baptist Church, 206 Soap Stone Road, will have a fall festival Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3-9 p.m. This year's theme is Blast From the Past. Come dressed as your favorite personality from the 50s through the 90s. There will be games, food and prizes.
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 509 Cherokee Falls Road, Blacksburg, will have its annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. A "Hee-Haw" style variety show is planned with a meal of chicken stew, hot dogs and chips to follow. A "trunk 'n' treat" is planned for the children.
Shady Grove Baptist Church Sunday School will have its annual Fall Festival and Halloween "trunk or treat" Saturday, Oct. 31, from 3-5 p.m. All are invited to wear non-scary costumes and go from "trunk to trunk" to collect treats. There will plenty of food, drinks and fried fish for all. A hayride is also planned.
Turning Point Church, 345 Floyd Baker Road, is hosting a free fall festival Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5- 7:30 p.m. There will be free game booths and candy. Chili, Frito pies and soda will be sold for 50 cents each.
Kirby Memorial Baptist Church and the Boy's and Girls Club are hosting fall festival Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Boys and Girls Club from 6-8 p.m.
Event
rescheduled
Due to 90 percent chance of rain forecasted for Saturday, Oct. 31, the fall festival at Brookview Healthcare Center has been rescheduled to Saturday, Nov. 14, from 4-7 p.m.
Halloween
events
The Blacksburg Business Association will present the Halloween "Fright Night Street Dance" Oct. 31 from 6:30- 10:30 p.m. Prizes and candy will be given to those in attendance between the ages of one and 12 years old, in addition to a bonfire and a performance by the 16th Avenue Band.
Visitors can tour Lost Emerald Farm's corn maze, pumpkin patch and take a hayride from 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The daytime events are family/child friendly. On Oct. 29-31, from dark until 11ish p.m., the events are haunted and frightening. The 3-D Haunted Adventure includes a haunted corn maze, haunted trail, 3-D haunted house and hayride. Lost Emerald Farm is located at 2761 Overbrook Drive; Exit 87 off of I-85 on the Frontage Road.
Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department will have a haunted house Oct. 29-31 at 137 Blackwell Road in Blacksburg. The horrors begin at 7 p.m. and admission is $5. For directions, call 864- 839-4500.
Prime Outlets will host a fun and safe Halloween "spook-tacular" trick-or-treat event Friday, Oct. 30, from 6-8 p.m. Children ages 15 and younger are invited to pick up a free trick-ortreat bag and a free Tum- E Yummie at the Guest Services Center located in the food court. Additionally, participating stores will hand out Halloween treats to kids 15 and younger. A costume contest for children will be held in the food court. Judging times will be: newborn–3 years old at 6:30 p.m.; 4-7 years old at 7 p.m.; and 8–15 years old at 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required 30 minutes prior to the age bracket the child will enter into; register at Guest Services.
Special events
The Senior Centers of Cherokee County’s "Ride for the Seniors" will be held Saturday, Oct. 31. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and the first bike will leave at 10 a.m. The center is located at 499 W. Rutledge Ave. For more information, call Debbie Davenport, 864-489-3868.
Blood drives
The Piedmont Blood Center's Bloodmobile will be at Upstate Carolina Medical Center on Friday, Oct. 30, from 1-7 p.m.
Church news
There will be a special service Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. at New Harvest Ministries, 215 Pecan St. Evangelist missionary Mike Brown of Corbin, Ky., will be ministering.
The Voice of Triumph, 179 Corry Road, Blacksburg, will host its 10th annual fall camp meeting Oct. 28-30. Services will be held today at 7 p.m.; Thursday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and Friday at 2:30 p.m and 7 p.m. The evening guest speaker will be evangelist Gordon Stacy of Strawberry Plains, Tenn. Music will be provided by local artists, and guests on Thursday and Friday will be the Skyland Singers of Newland, N.C. Lodging and meals are provided for those who wish to stay at the campground.
