Threats probed

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service are investigating threats made against two 7th Circuit prosecutors.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s office, 7th Circuit Solicitor Trey Gowdy and Assistant Solicitor Ryan McCarty were threatened in letters sent from the McCormick Correctional Facility.

McCarty received a threatening letter from an inmate at McCormick on Oct. 16 while Gowdy received a threatening letter, also from an inmate at McCormick, on Oct. 23. Both letters were sent to SLED for analysis.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office has not had any prior involvement with the inmate.
