Future looks less cloudy for Timken
      Canton, Ohio-based Timken Co., parent company of the Timken Gaffney Roller Bearing Plant, lost $50.1 million in the last quarter and expects losses to continue for the remainder of the year amid continuing weak demand.

       The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate armed robberies that occurred in recent days. On Oct. 27 at about 11:50 p.m., police said a man armed with a handgun entered a convenience store in the 1000 block of Cherokee Avenue and robbed the store of about $800 from the cash register.

New home starts in Sept. continue slide
      Housing stats compiled by the local Home Builders Association show home starts in Cherokee County are still slumping. There were five new home starts in the county in September, down one when compared to the housing stats of Sept. 2008.
