Fund raiser nets approximately $3,000 for MOW
Jimmy Phillips and Todd Humphries worked this past Labor Day selling barbecue and hash at Masonic Lodge No.186's annual fund raiser for Meals on Wheels.
Masonic Lodge No. 186 held its fourth annual Labor Day barbecue and hash sale to raise funds for Cherokee County Meals on Wheels. The men raised almost $3,000 that will go directly to feed the elderly, homebound and disabled in Cherokee County.
The summer months are the most difficult time of year for Meals on Wheels – donations are down and the demand for services is up. The organization has been serving Cherokee County for 26 years and the need for services continues to increase.
Gaffney Masonic Lodge No. 186 makes a major impact in raising much-need funds for MOW. "We extend a very special heartfelt thanks to all the fellas at the lodge who gave up a night's rest to prepare the barbecue and hash and then sell it on Labor Day," said Terry Dennis, Meals on Wheels director. "You have made a difference!"
The lodge's 2009 barbecuehash team included Jimmy Phillips, Todd Humphries, Payne Humphries, Randall Phillips, John Russall Phillips, Billy Humphries, Jerry Smith, James Harris, Chris Wyatt, Scotty Strain, Alan Kilby, Adam Ruppe, Dennis Sentell, Robert Keller, Mathew Bucherri and Gary Martin. The lodge extends special thanks to Don Patton for the use of the chopper and the DMV VFD for the use of a cooking pot.
