Volunteer tax preparers sought

2009-11-02 / LifeStyles

The IRS and its partners are looking for volunteers to spend a little time learning about taxes and sharing that knowledge with others to help prepare their federal and state tax returns. Volunteer Income Tax assistance (VITA) program volunteers prepare free basic federal and state tax returns (filed electronically) for taxpayers whose incomes are $49,000 or less. Anyone can volunteer.

The IRS provides free training materials to community organizations that sponsor VITA. Volunteers generally spend three to four hours a week from the latter part of January through April 15 helping taxpayers their communities.

The Senior Center in Gaffney will be a host site for the training. Call Debbie, 864-489-3868, at the center for more information.
