Candidate appoints county co-chairs
U.S. Congressman Gresham Barrett, a Republican candidate for Governor, has announced Joan Wheeler and Dr. Ron Barrett will serve as his Cherokee County cochairs, making his campaign the first to announce a grassroots organization in the county. Wheeler and Barrett will lead the campaign’s grassroots efforts in Cherokee County by spreading Congressman Barrett’s conservative vision for job creation, organizing their respective communities, providing the campaign with ‘on-the-ground’ guidance, and keeping local supporters up-todate on campaign news and events.
Joan Wheeler, former president of the Cherokee County Republican Party, highlighted Barrett’s real life experience as giving him the skills needed to serve as governor.
“People are ready for a breath of fresh air in government and I think Gresham brings that to the table,” said Wheeler. “He has a track record of building conservative consensus, and getting things done. And Gresham’s life experiences of serving in the U.S. Army, running a small business and serving in elected office at both the state and federal level make him uniquely prepared to deliver real results as our next Governor.”
Dr. Ron Barrett, twoterm past president of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, added that Congressman Barrett has a clear vision for leading South Carolina’s economic turnaround.
“Gresham has made economic development and job creation his top priority,” said Dr. Barrett. “As our next Governor, he will focus on re-establishing our state as the leader for economic development in the Southeast. Gresham will work tirelessly to better our business climate by restructuring and reforming our outdated tax code, reducing discretionary spending, and shifting funds to improve infrastructure. I am confident that Gresham has the leadership and the vision to lead an economic revival in South Carolina, and I am proud to support his candidacy.”
Congressman Barrett expressed gratitude to his county co-chairs saying, “Cherokee is an extremely important county in this election and we are building a grassroots team there that is second to none. I am so thankful to Joan and Ron for offering up their leadership. I look forward to working with them as we work together to make South Carolina more prosperous and more promising.”
